Andiamo!

40 degrees and windy on a Miami Winter night… cruel, unorthodox, blasphemous! It has me wondering why I left the arctic icebox that we all love and know as NYC. I was in search of comfort food that would make the bitter wind chill seem afar from the cozy, insulated log cabin that i was about to dine in. Ok… So there are no log cabins in Miami, but the rustic crust of the Andiamo’s TRUE brick oven pizzas were a much welcomed substitute!

The restaurant feels like a deco drive-in that would pass for an LA hangout. Ambiance aside, if you are looking for a natural, earthy, “real food” brick oven pizza, this is the place to go.

The 10 inch pies, perfect for one person, cost between $8.50 and $11.50, about 2 bucks more than the typical triglyceride infused personal pans from Pizza Hut… not bad! The toppings are fresh, and the combinations illustrate that the menu was planned with culinary precision, a fresh take on classic Italian flavors, and of course the New York spin… What would Pizza be without it?

I recommend the Bella Bambina, if you are in the mood for the sweet/salty combination of the caramelized onions and sauteed panchetta. My friend Esteban Barnardberg had the Soprano, a typical guy choice with the meaty sweet Italian sausage. However, I must say that the way they spiced the broccoli rabe was more intricate that what you would find in a common pizzeria in Brooklyn.

Oh, and the Crust! Perfectly Crunchy Crust Bubbles… Crisp around the edges, but soft and warm in the center, perfect for folding in half…

My only complaint would be that the tables inside were quite small, which I am sure would not have been a problem if the artic freeze did not force us to wear socks and sweaters in February… I know, I am just as disgusted as you are…

Overall Rating is AWESOMENESS for Andiamo Pizza…
